National Conference
1st Round Bye – Top Two Teams (spots already clinched) #1 Dallas – (13-1, projected finish 15-1) #2 Georgia – (12-2, projected finish 14-2) The Desperados only loss this season was to Georgia so they need to keep ahead of the Force to hold on to the #1 seed and home field advantage. That should have Dallas going full out through the end of the season. Georgia gambled that Chris Greison would be the answer at QB and he has been outstanding, currently leading the AFL with a 133.8 QB rating and has tossed 103 touchdowns against only 10 interceptions.
Seeds #3 through #6 – play in Wild Card Round #3 Orlando (8-6, projected finish 9-7) #4 Tampa Bay (7-7, projected finish 8-8) holds tiebreaker over Columbus & Philadelphia #5 Philadelphia (6-8, projected finish 7-9) #6 Columbus (6-8, projected finish 6-10) currently holds tiebreaker over Philadelphia & NY
Will be on the outside looking in:
New York (5-8, projected finish 6-10) Dragons lost to Columbus 51-42 on May 4th. Stick a fork in them they are done: New Orleans (4-10, projected finish 5-11) No “saintly” success here for the VooDoo. Austin (4-10, projected finish 4-12) Fired head coach last season after they made playoffs but lost in the 1st round. Seems things didn’t quite work out the way they expected.
Remaining Games With Major Playoff Implications:
Week 15 – Columbus at Philadelphia – Winner clinches playoff berth Week 16 – Columbus at New York – final spot could come down to tiebreakers
American Conference
1st Round Bye – Top Two Teams #1 San Jose – (11-3, projected finish 13-3) They have already clinched bye. #2 Kansas City – (9-5, projected finish 11-5) Sabercats have simply dominated at home this season winning, their 1st seven games by an average score of 67-46. San Jose is solid on both sides of the ball with the #2 offense (avg. 62.4 ppg) while also having the AFL’s #4 defense. The Brigade have been 2007’s surprise team and with Chicago not playing well as of late see them with a decent chance to take the #2 spot.
Seeds #3 thru #6 #3 Chicago (10-4, projected finish 10-6) #4 Colorado (8-6, projected finish 9-7) #5 Los Angeles (8-6, projected finish 9-7) #6 Utah (7-8, projected finish 8-8)
On the outside looking in:
Nashville (6-8, projected finish 7-9) Kats unfortunately need another life to make playoffs, however they do hold the tiebreaker with Utah so get the last spot if tied with the Blaze.
Stick a fork in them they are done:
Grand Rapids (4-10, projected finish 5-11) While decent at home, Rampage really bad on the road. Arizona (4-11, projected finish 4-12) Fired head coach Danny White 2 yrs ago after he led them to the playoffs year after year and 2 Arena Bowl championships needing to “move in another direction”, wonder if they are happy with the current direction now. Las Vegas (2-12, projected finish 2-14) Huge thumbs down season for the Gladiators.
Remaining Games with Major Playoff Implications:
Week 15 – Nashville at Kansas City - a win by KC clinches a playoff berth for LA Week 16 – Kansas City at Chicago, Utah at Los Angeles If KC beats Chicago and the two end up tied the Brigade steal away the #2 seed from the Rush. Utah will likely need to beat the Avengers to blaze into the playoffs as Nashville has a home game vs. Grand Rapids to close out the season.
Don’t forget that my Arena Selections are currently ranked as the #1 Money Leader (+1000) and #1 Percentage Leader (68%) – Don’t miss out on this week's winners!!!!!
