Kyle Busch won the Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway, his third victory of the season. "It?s pretty awesome,? Busch said. ?Darlington obviously showed again tonight that is one of the hardest places -- always has been, and always will be. Even with the fresh asphalt this place is tough.? The victory gives Busch a 79-point lead atop the Sprint Cup standings. The #18 Mamp;Ms Toyota driver has racked up an incredible seven top 5s and eight top 10s in only 11 races this season. ?It?s an awesome win for us,? Busch continued. ?I can?t thank these guys enough. They prepared such a great race car. The lapped cars were great at the end -- they gave me all the room in the world." (Eric Adams/SB) |

I tore it up just a little bit on the left-front, but I definitely had a good time ? a lot better time than last night. The new surface is growing on me.? It?s hard not to like David Ragan. With a 5th place finish at Darlington, he jumped to 12th in the Sprint Cup standings. Whenever I listen to Kyle Busch, there always seems to be a hint of arrogance or cockiness. With Ragan, there seems to be a genuine sense of awe to even be in the sport. It?s a pleasant change of pace from the attitudes of most professional athletes. "To (finish well) at Darlington is just something special,? Ragan said. ?Darlington is an awesome track. You?re running laps out there and you think about the guys that made this place famous like Cale Yarborough and Bill Elliott and David Pearson and people like that. It just makes you realize how fortunate we are to come out here and race at such a cool track.? Besides an awful showing at Daytona, Ragan has been very solid this season. Matt Kenseth needed a good showing this weekend. Before the Dodge Challenger 500, he had finished 38th, 41st, and 38th in his three previous starts. His 6th place finish at Darlington couldn?t have come at a better time. ?We?ve been running so terrible and having such bad luck, so I was happy for our finish,? Kenseth said.? ?The only little thing frustrating is the racing was kind of weird at the end. Everybody is riding around half-throttle and when you have a hard tire and a little fuel cell everybody is trying to stretch that last five laps, so that was kind of weird. But, other than that, it was good. It was a great finish for us and we ran pretty good." The great run moves Kenseth up two spots into 20th in the Sprint Cup standings. (Eric Adams/SB) |
