In a fight held in his native Toluca, the 26-year-old Hernandez was favored by the judges 116-112, 118-110 and 116-112.

He improved to 26-2-2. He won the title last year on a rematch against Kompayak Propramook and has successfully defended it twice.

Cardozo, 24, had a six-fight winning streak snapped and fell to 15-5.
