UFC Fight Night 122
Michael Bisping vs. Kelvin Gastelum Betting Preview

By Abe Chong

Former middleweight champion Michael Bisping (30-8, 17 KOs, 3 SUBs) will meet the hard-hitting Kelvin Gastelum (13-3, 5 KOs, 4 SUBs) at UFC Fight NIght 122 on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Mercedez-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The entire card streams live on Fight Pass. Get the latest UFC odds, predictions and picks now!

Michael Bisping might have lost his middleweight belt a few weeks ago, but he isn’t wasting any time getting back into the octagon - even if he has to travel around the world to do it. This Saturday, Bisping will replace Anderson Silva, who has once again failed a USADA test, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai. Kelvin Gastelum will hope to capitalize against the former champ and throw his name into the title mix.

Let’s take a look at the UFC odds at BookMaker.eu and break down the matchup, along with your betting options.

UFC Odds - per BookMaker.eu
Kelvin Gastelum -290
Michael Bisping +245
Over/under 2.5 rounds, over -110, under -110

UFC Odds Analysis
The odds reflect a few things here: first is that Bisping is making an extremely short turnaround and fighting an opponent just a few weeks after he was knocked down and choked out by GSP. The second is that he’s fighting a guy 12 years his junior who happens to be much faster and a harder puncher than he is.

The round total is split down the middle at 2.5, with a pick’em at -110 for the over and under. Basically, oddsmakers are telling you to flip a coin here - and this is something you can take advantage of.

Fight Preview
This fight projects to be a standup battle: both men do their best work as strikers. Neither average more than a takedown per 15 minutes either, though Gastelum was a state high school wrestling champion. However, his wrestling has been used more defensively as he’s logged more cage time.

Gastelum is a boxer-puncher with lightning fast hands, high accuracy and punishing power. He makes up for his compact frame by fighting inside the pocket and getting off first. Not just a headhunter, the Kings MMA rep also has a flair for body punches - the bigger Tim Kennedy was felled by numerous rib shots.

Against Bisping, Gastelum should have advantages in speed, cardio and punching power. But he cannot get too confident, even against an aging vet. The last time Bisping stepped in on short notice he shocked the world by knocking out Luke Rockhold to win the belt. His punching power has evolved under Jason Parillo, who has taught him to sit down on his combinations for greater impact.

The fact that Bisping was knocked down by GSP does not bode well for the Brit. St. Pierre has never been considered a power puncher, and his boxing has always been more geared towards scoring points and opening takedowns. Gastelum is a much more dangerous puncher, and far more willing to stand in the pocket to lay down leather.

UFC Betting Tips
Gastelum’s price is too expensive to be anything more than a parlay booster. We do feel like it’s a relatively safe bet, as he has yet to be knocked out in 16 professional fights. The danger here is that Bisping finds his groove and outpoints him, but Gastelum’s speed advantage likely prevents that from happening

If you want to take a risk, we’d suggest the over at -110. Bisping is as experienced as they come, and he’s faced all sorts of excellent strikers and made it to the final bell. In the likely occurrence of a boxing match, he should make it past the third round.

UFC Odds Pick: Gastelum to win at -290
