DRESDEN, Germany (AP) -Undefeated Zsolt Erdei pounded out a one-sided decision against DeAndrey Abron on Saturday night to retain his WBO light heavyweight title.
Erdei (29-0, 17 KOs) landed his left jab from the start in his 10th defense, proving too quick and experienced for the American, who had yet to fight a name opponent.
All three judges scored the bout 119-109 for Erdei. Despite some combinations from the Hungarian that appeared to stun Abron in the final minute of bout, the fight largely was devoid of compelling exchanges and drew jeers from the crowd.
``I saved my energy. I really didn't risk much,'' Erdei said. ``I have a feeling bigger fights are still to come.''
The 33-year-old Erdei has been criticized for his unwillingness to leave Germany and face the division's top fighters, but the longest-serving light heavyweight champion may try to unify the fractured division.
Antonio Tarver currently holds the IBF belt, and Chad Dawson is the recognized WBC champion.
Abron (15-2, 10 KOs) had his best round in the third, when he tagged Erdei with a hard right. But the 35-year-old former soldier didn't claim another round.
On the same card, Ukrainian Sergiy Dzinziruk (35-0, 22 KOs) retained his WBO light middleweight belt with a decision against Lukas Konecny (36-3, 18 KOs) from the Czech Republic.
