Diaz- Katsidis Preview

Editor's Note: Brad Marchetti has posted his expert selections on this bout. Click to win!

This Saturday night fight fans will want to make sure not to miss the 12-round lightweight Juan Diaz vs Michael Katsidis fight on HBO at 10:15 ET. Both of these young sluggers are coming off the first losses of their respective careers in this dangerous comeback bout. The mega-popular Mexican Juan Diaz is coming off a decision loss to hard-hitting Nate Campbell in what was a war. Katsidis is still shaking the cobwebs out of his head after a jarring KO loss to lightweight champ Joel Casamayor in what was also a war. The Juan Diaz vs Michael Katsidis preview odds have Juan Diaz as a 3-1 favourite.

Juan Diaz was a star amateur well before he ever turned pro and he made a fast rise in the pro ranks before running into Nate Campbell. Campbell proved that the 24-year old can be beat at his own game of slugging if you can take the punishment. The "Baby Bull" Diaz possesses fast hands and a stern chin but his defense and power are only average. Diaz throws tons of punches with the ability to break down opponents with bodyshots. In his last bout Diaz seemed to weaken down the stretch against Campbell which could be caused to his lack of roadwork. Despite not ever doing

roadwork Diaz does have above-average stamina and can be a punching machine when he is on.

The heavily tattooed Michael Katsidis is a brawler comes to fight with high-powered offensive assaults that separates most challengers from their senses. At a testosterone fuelled 28-years old, the former Australian Olympic representative is a rough customer that is never in a dull scrap. While employing an aggressive hands held-high European style Katsidis unloads sizzling combinations at his opponents brain. Michael has the sound technique like most well-pedigreed amateurs, but his squared off stance will make him an available target for Diaz. Like most offensive minded sluggers however Katsidis has little in the way in head movement and can be slammed to the canvas with authority by big punchers. Katsidis bleeds and gets tagged but he possess a huge heart and is relentless.

This is one of those can't miss fights that is pivotal for both fighters careers. This is a tough fight back for both men but the pressure is really on Diaz to deliver. Diaz signed for big-money with Golden Boy Promotions before his fight with Campbell and he needs to prove he is a worthy investment. Katsidis has to show that he has recovered from the highlight reel KO that he was a victim of by Casamayor. The fighter with the better defense should win this fight. Can Katsidis drop Diaz with his bombs? Can Diaz get Katsidis moving backwards and impose his will? Does Katsidis have a glass jaw after being dropped so frequently by Casamayor? Does Juan Diaz have the real heart of a champion after fading against Campbell?
