Boston Red Sox (-145) at Baltimore Orioles – 7:05 pm ET
These teams have split the first two games of the series. Baltimore is 17-11 since Buck Showalter took over as manager. Boston’s playoff hopes are fading rapidly.
Brad Bergesen (6-9, 5.55 ERA) has pitched much better in August at 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA. Baltimore has won his last five starts after dropping his previous six. He’s 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA lifetime against Boston.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-4, 4.19 ERA) missed his prior start with a back problem. He had his season debut in Baltimore on May 1 after starting the season on the DL (neck). He got lit up for six earned runs over 4 2/3 innings. His career ERA is 7.30 at Camden Yards.
New York Mets (+140) at Atlanta Braves – 7:10 pm ET
This is the final game of a four-game set. Atlanta took the first two games by outscoring New York 18-5. Last night they won again (4-1).
Santana (10-9, 3.02 ERA) has seen the Mets lose his last three starts with a total of five runs of support. His ERA is actually lower on the road (2.83) than at home (3.24). He pitched at Atlanta on August 2, allowing four runs over seven innings.
Hudson (15-5, 2.24 ERA) continues to have a great year and health is a big reason why. He had 13 strikeouts last game against Florida and has 22 quality starts in 27 outings. He’s also 10-3 with a 1.83 ERA at home.
Hudson beat Santana on Aug 2, allowing one earned run and six hits over six innings.
Detroit Tigers (Even) at Minnesota Twins – 8:10 pm ET
Detroit has killed bettors on the road (22-42), including the first two games of this series by one run each.
Justin Verlander (14-8, 3.58 ERA) is the team ace although Max Scherzer is coming on extremely fast. Verlander has a much higher ERA on the road (4.53) than at home (2.63). Detroit has lost his last five road starts, but his ERA is just 3.71.
