Boise State, Va. Tech highlight weekend

Boise State is a one-point favorite at Brobury with a total of 50 ½-points. ESPN will have the 8 pm ET broadcast. It’s technically a neutral site game at the Washington Redskins stadium in Maryland, but the Hokies are a reasonable drive away and will have many more fans.
No. 3 Boise State went 14-0 SU and 9-5 ATS last season. They beat fellow undefeated TCU in the Fiesta Bowl (17-10) and finished ranked fourth in the final poll.
Boise State thinks it can go even further this year, like the national title game. They return almost all of their starters on offense and defense. They should win all of their WAC games before moving to the MWC next year.
That means a national bid could hinge on this game and in three weeks against Oregon State. Pac-10 Oregon State gave TCU a tough game this past Saturday and will be no pushover.
Boise State has an explosive offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate Kellen Moore. His 39 touchdown passes versus three interceptions last year tells the whole story. There’s a stable of talented running backs and wide receivers. They could even improve on their 42.2 PPG scoring mark (first in the country).
The defense was 14th in the country in points allowed (17.1 PPG). They held Oregon to eight points and stepped up against TCU as well. This is an underrated unit overall.
Virginia Tech is out of the ACC and ranked No. 10 in the AP poll. They have a chance to really improve offensively with senior quarterback Tyrod Taylor developing as a solid passer.
Taylor has two great running backs behind him in Ryan Williams (1,655 yards last year) and Darren Evans (1,265 yards in 2008). Evans is coming back from a knee injury, but should be a force in reserve.
The defense could take a step back after returning just four starters. However, this program has rebuilt on the fly before and it should happen again. The question is whether their inexperience will show against this potent Boise State attack.
The spread keeps falling for Boise State as bettors are moving toward the bigger conference Hokies. That could be a big mistake!
