DALLAS COWBOYS at OAKLAND RAIDERS
Sportsbook.ag Line & Total: Oakland -1 & 35
Opening Line & Total: Raiders -1.5 & 34
The only two teams that have not played a preseason game yet will match up on Monday night when the Raiders host the Cowboys.
Dallas will be missing several key players in this game including WR Miles Austin (hamstring), rookie WR Danny Coale (foot), C Phil Costa (back spasms), rookie CB Morris Claiborne (knee), CB Mike Jenkins (shoulder), OLB Anthony Spencer (hamstring) and DT Jay Ratliff (plantar fasciitis). Dallas owner Jerry Jones has also said his team will be "plain vanilla" on Monday night, revealing that the Cowboys will not really try to win the game. Meanwhile, the Raiders will be all amped up to win this nationally televised game in front of their home fans to start new head coach Dennis Allen's tenure out on the right foot.
Starting QB Tony Romo is expected to play 1-or-2 series on Monday night and then Kyle Orton will likely play for the majority of the first half. Orton has logged 76 NFL games (74 starts), completing 58% of his throws for 14,532 yards, 80 TD and 57 INT. Third-quarter QB duties will likely go to Stephen McGee with Rudy Carpenter closing out the game. McGee took over for the injured Tony Romo last Christmas Eve against the Eagles, and finished 24-of-38 for 182 yards (4.8 YPA), 1 TD and 0 INT. Carpenter, who was with Tampa Bay in 2011 has yet to throw a pass in the NFL regular season. Although Austin is out and WR Dez Bryant (hamstring) will not likely play either, these signal callers will be throwing to a host of players eager to earn the No. 3 WR role in Dallas -- Dwayne Harris, Kevin Ogletree, Andre Holmes and Cole Beasley.
Although Oakland starting QB Carson Palmer won't likely play more than a couple of series, backup Matt Leinart is itching to show that he's still got some life left in his arm. Leinart has played 31 NFL regular-season games, completing 58% of his passes for 3,950 yards (6.5 YPA), 15 TD and 20 INT. Third-stringer Terrelle Pryor will also see a ton of action, most likely playing the entire third quarter. Expect the former Ohio State star to shine after not really getting a chance as a rookie in 2011. The Raiders receiving corps is unsettled, but rookies Juron Criner and Rod Streater will likely see the most targets. Oft-injured starting RB Darren McFadden won't likely get a big workload, but his two backups, Mike Goodson (neck) and Taiwan Jones (hamstring) are also injured. Former Cowboys RB Lonyae Miller assumes to get the bulk of carries, but the team could also call a significant amount of running plays for the speedy Pryor. Two key defensive injuries to Raiders players include LB Aaron Curry (knee) and CB Ronald Bartell (hamstring).
