Upset Alert - Week 12

Last week, we saw the biggest upset of them all as #1 Alabama fell to "Johnny Football" and Texas A&M. That game shook up the BCS standings and if the season were to end today, it would be the first time in over half a decade that an SEC team wouldn't be involved in the National Title game. Last week's upset alert piece warned readers about undefeated Louisville struggling up in Syracuse, Oregon State's chances in Stanford and Mississippi State in LSU. Well, Louisville's undefeated season was halted rather quickly as Syracuse got up and ended up taking control of that game rather easily. Oregon State fell as small dogs to the Cardinal, while Mississippi State's collapse in the latter half of this year continued in LSU. Here are teams that should be on upset alert this week:
Ohio State (+2.5) vs. Wisconsin (-2.5)
The Buckeyes are undefeated at 10-0 this year, but with all the NCAA penalties levied on them this season, post-season play just isn't happening. Yet, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be on upset alert this week because you know coach Urban Meyer would still love to make a statement this year by going undefeated.
The Badgers have clinched the Leaders division in the Big 10 thanks to Ohio State being ineligible, but they also want to prove they can still beat the Buckeyes this year. Wisconsin hasn't forgotten about how they lost to Ohio State in the final minute last year as it stung the entire Badger nation. Wisconsin will show up this week and could play their best game to date.
Stanford (+20.5) vs. Oregon (-20.5)
Obviously I can't leave the showdown in Eugene, Oregon off this list as the Ducks hope to remain undefeated and remain in the National Title picture. Stanford is a very good team though and their big, bruising style has provided the Ducks with some issues before. The past two years it hasn't been an issue for Oregon though as they won by double-digits both times. However, they never played the Cardinal before their Civil War with Oregon State and that is significant for one reason. The Ducks have been brutal ATS in the week before playing the Beavers in recent memory, going 2-8 ATS in the past 10 years in this spot. That includes five SU losses, all as favorites, with two of them being as double-digit favorites. The most recent was last year vs. USC as 16.5-point favorites in a game that really knocked them out of any slim hope they had at a National Title as a one-loss team.
History has a tendency to repeat itself, so Ducks fans better be weary this week.
