MNF Prop Card
A game between the 2-8 Carolina Panthers and 3-7 Philadelphia Eagles isn’t going to attract much attention from the casual NFL bettor tonight, but for those who are looking for a bit more action there is always the props. These two teams have nothing to play for but pride and personal contracts, so don’t expect this game to be that defensive minded. If that turns out to be the case tonight, it presents some favorable prop betting options on some of these offensive players.
Prop #1: Cam Newton Total Touchdown Passes: Over 1.5 (+140) or Under 1.5 (-180)
We all know that Carolina is predominantly a running team but their wide receivers have got to be licking their chops when seeing the recent film of this Eagles secondary. Philadelphia fired their DC Juan Castillo during their bye week and since then they have allowed an average of 31.8 points per game. More importantly though for this prop bet is the fact that all four QB’s in those games have thrown at least two TD passes in those games.
Granted, three of them (Brees, Romo, Ryan) are great passers, but the one who put up the most passing TDs (4) was the most similar to Newton – RGIII. Griffin aired it out on the Eagles all afternoon last week and it was likely the threat of him running that had the Eagles safeties biting more and freeing up space in the passing game. With guys like Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell and Greg Olsen at Newton’s disposal, I expect him to be passing a fair bit. At the underdog price of +140, it’s impossible not to like the over here.
Take Over 1.5 TD passes for Newton
Prop #2: DeSean Jackson Receiving Yards: Over 64.5 (-115) or Under 64.5 (-115)
This was a prop bet I liked a few weeks ago when the Eagles were in New Orleans and Jackson went over his yardage total with one deep TD pass. Yes that was against the porous Saints pass defense and Vick was at the helm throwing it up, but Foles is more of a pocket passer and having another week of practice reps with the 1st team has got to help both of them be on the same page.
Carolina’s defense got torched through the air last week during Tampa’s comeback and their star WR Vincent Jackson was the focal point during the final drive. DeSean may not have the size and strength that Vincent does, but he is 10 times faster and will use his speed to stretch the defense. When a guy can go over his yardage mark with only one catch, you’ve got to go back to the well.
Take Over 64.5 yards for DeSean Jackson tonight
