Weekend Hoops Action
February 9, 2013
By CarbonSports
The college basketball season is hitting the homestretch and that means we will have plenty of conference rematches coming to us in the next few weeks. It also means that no team with a high ranking is safe after yet another #1 (Indiana) lost last night. Here are a couple games you need to make sure you catch this weekend:
Saturday (2:00 p.m.)
North Carolina vs. Miami
This is one of those revenge games I was talking about as the North Carolina Tar Heels go on the road and try to avenge their lone home loss on the year. The Tar Heels aren't quite as talented as they have been in year's past but at 16-6 SU they are still a team to be reckoned with and are always dangerous. They will likely be getting quite a few points as underdogs in this one with Miami being arguably the hottest team in college basketball these days. The Tar Heels don't always thrive in the underdog role but after losing to the Hurricanes for the first time in their last 10 meetings earlier this year, you better believe the Tar Heels will be ready.
Miami has vaulted up the rankings in recent weeks having won 10 straight games, including a perfect 9-0 in conference. But while this team appears to be hitting their stride, they have shown vulnerability at times this year and that includes two of their three losses coming to the likes of Indiana State and Florida Gulf Coast.
Finally, when a team is as hot as Miami is and weren't expected to be where they are at, you've always got to be weary of the young players starting to believe their own hype and reading their press clippings. They know they already beat this Tar Heels team this season, in one of the toughest buildings to play in all of college basketball, so there is a chance they come into this one a bit light.
Look for the Tar Heels to keep this one very close, if not pull off the outright win. Bet this game here.
Sunday (1:00 p.m.)
Indiana vs. Ohio State
Indiana is coming into this one off their heartbreaking final-second loss to Illinois on Thursday night and was likely caught looking ahead to this game against the 10th ranked Buckeyes. This is the first meeting between these two this season and with the rematch coming in Indiana's final home game of the year, the Hoosiers would love to have a chance for the season sweep in that one.
After each of Indiana's other two losses this year they came back with strong performances in wins by 39 and 8 points respectively. They will not let a late game collapse happen ever again after Illinois' success on Thursday and although they are in hostile territory, this team won't be fazed.
Ohio State is coming off their own heartbreaking loss as well (to Michigan in OT) and getting #3 Michigan and #1 Indiana back-to-back in the same week will likely be too much for this team. Ohio State is a very good team in their own right, but to play these two powerhouses back to back can only set them up for failure. Bet this game here.
