Big Western Conference Showdown as the Thunder Play host to the Nuggets
Line: OKC -9.5
A Nuggets/Thunder divisional rivalry game highlights Tuesday’s small NBA card with the Nuggets playing their second game in as many nights after an OT win in Chicago yesterday. The home team is a perfect 3-0 ATS in these games this year and Denver has won the last two. The Thunder are looking for revenge from the 105-103 loss they took in Mile High at the beginning of the month after Ty Lawson hit a buzzer beater to break the tie.
Some bettors may be deterred from the home team tonight given it’s quite a few points to give a quality team like the Nuggets. But in the only other game played IN OKC, the Thunder were 9-point favorites and ended up winning in a runaway; 117-97. It was a first quarter beatdown that decided that contest as the Thunder were up 34-18 after the first 12 minutes and never looked back. And coincidently, that game has quite a lot in common with tonight’s spot.
Not only is tonight’s game in OKC again but Denver was coming off an OT win the night before that time as well. Denver was taken to the brink by a feisty Portland team as the Trailblazers forced OT. Denver was 9-point home favorites and pulled it out in the extra frame but the added minutes sure did a number on their energy level the next night in OKC. A 34-18 first quarter proves that and the same thing is likely in store for the Nuggets tonight.
As much as Denver would like to catch the Thunder for the division crown, they known that it’s highly unlikely given that they are 4 1/2 games behind them and Oklahoma City will continue to win down the stretch. The Nuggets managed to scratch and claw for a win in Chicago last night and splitting these two games in two nights against two quality opponents is something that George Karl can live with.
Oklahoma City has won three straight coming into tonight and although they have a big game at Memphis tomorrow night, there is zero chance they are looking past the Nuggets. Denver’s known for their run-and-gun style and the energy in their legs simply won’t be there tonight after a tough OT game in Chicago last night. OKC likes to run as well, and in similar fashion to their first meeting in this building, the Thunder should run Denver out of this building.
Lay the points with OKC.
