Atlanta Hawks Host Surging New York Knicks
With playoff spots locked in for both the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks, the remaining home stretch is all about jockeying for position. The Knicks are in firm control of their division, but need to hold off the Indiana Pacers to keep the second overall spot behind Miami in the East. Atlanta can do no better than fourth but and are battling for home court advantage against Brooklyn with the fourth and fifth seeds up for grabs.
That being said, there’s still plenty to play for here for both teams. For New York, the key is momentum. Nobody really believes that anyone can hang with the Miami Heat over the course of a seven game series, but New York is one of the franchises that believes it has a chance. Their nine-game winning streak, where they’re 8-1 ATS, has every one in New York on the edge of their seats.
Overall, the Knicks have been one of the best betting teams around. They’re 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 8-1 ATS when playing the Eastern Conference. I know they’re coming off a big win against Miami, where Melo drained 50 points, but the Knicks are also 6-1 ATS when playing on zero days rest. This is one of those games where people will largely assume that New York drained the tank the night before, but I don’t see New York pulling off the pedal against the Hawks.
New York Knicks (47-26) vs. Atlanta Hawks (42-33)
Wednesday, April 3rd --- Phillips Arena --- 7pm EST
NBA Betting Line: Atlanta -2.5 (197.5)
This has very much been a split series over the past three seasons. The Knicks are 5-3 SU when playing the Hawks in their last 8 games, but the teams are an even 4-4 ATS in those games.
It always seems that Atlanta is built to be canon fodder in the playoffs, and that remains true this season. Lately they haven’t even been a strong bet in the sportsbook. Atlanta is just 2-5 ATS when playing a team that has a winning record, and are also an abysmal 1-4 ATS when playing at home. Combining both metrics, the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games when playing a team with a winning record.
You just have to ride New York when they’re on fire. When momentum is disrupted we can discuss things further, but the Knicks have been a proven asset in the sportsbook for the past 10 games and you should stay on this train despite the circumstances (zero days rest on the road). New York has some obvious flaws but right now none of them are effecting them in the win column.
