MLB Betting: Orioles/Yankees Series
Series price: Baltimore (+130) vs. New York (-160)
The New York Yankees are a well-rested bunch after not playing since Tuesday thanks to rain in Cleveland. This early in the year seeing postponements is quite common, but two in a row can is rare and can be good or bad for a team.
If you were rolling like the Yankees were (3-0 SU last three; scored 32 runs) having this time off between games can do nothing but cool your bats down. They are already playing with a “B” team out there and to get these guys going and mashing the ball like they were was great for the Yankees brass to see. But it won’t last forever and everyone knows it. They face a great young pitcher in Miguel Gonzalez tonight who has held many of tonight’s Yankees hitless in their meetings; including Robinson Cano who is 0-for-6 vs. Gonzalez.
In order to lay this juice on the Yankees to win the series you’ve got to believe New York will win Game 1 and with CC Sabathia on the hill they do have a great shot at doing so.
Game 1 lines: Baltimore (+135) vs. New York (-150); Total set at 8
It’s Gonzalez vs. Sabathia tonight and I’ve already touched on Gonzalez’s brief history with the Yankees hitters. But Sabathia’s history against the Orioles is definitely not brief and there are plenty of hitters who have sustained success against the big Yankees left-hander. Adam Jones is 14-for-41 with three long balls against Sabathia and he comes into tonight as arguably the Orioles hottest hitter. Add in the facts that JJ Hardy (.429), Alexi Casilla (.571) and Nolan Reimold (.341) all hit over .340 against the lefty in double-digit at bats and Baltimore has plenty of guys that can do some damage tonight.
The layoff for New York has also got to be a concern, especially when you have an Orioles team fresh off two
great wins in Boston. That 9th inning comeback against Boston on Wednesday really sparked this Orioles team and they’ve got to be tremendously confident heading into tonight’s game and this weekend series.
Baltimore still has two emerging pitchers slated to start this weekend (Hammel and Chen) and shouldn’t be listed as any bigger dogs in those games than they are tonight. This Orioles team is out to prove last year was no fluke and starting the year by creating space with the Red Sox and Yankees would be a great start.
Take Baltimore ML – Game 1 (+135)
Take Baltimore to win series (+130)
