Wednesday’s MLB Betting Free Play – Darvish Battles Angles
Considering that both teams have seen Hall of Fame-quality hitters pack their bags over the last two seasons, it’s hard to remain optimistic about them in MLB betting circles. The Rangers have used a soft schedule in the early beginnings of this long season to stay afloat, but the Angels have looked sloppy. This used to be one of the league’s marquee series, and now it’s just fodder. That doesn’t mean this particular game can’t be lucrative for the savvy gambler.
The Rangers will send their best ace, Yu Darvish, to the mound and he has been a solid MLB betting booster all season. This shouldn’t be “shocking news” to anyone. At 3- this season, Darvish has allowed just 13 hits in 26.2 innings with a staggering 0.79 WHIP on the season. It’s impossible to bet against Darvish, especially since he’s allowed just 6 total runs in four games.
It’s also extremely comforting that Texas is 8-3 in the last 11 games when Darvish starts. Overall, Texas has been a hot team going 4-1 in its last 5 games which includes a polished four-game winning streak after edging the Angels 7-6 on Tuesday. Against right handers, Texas has gone 7-3 in its last 10 games and Jerome Williams isn’t a top-notch talent that can derail their consistent hitting.
Texas Rangers (13-7) vs. Los Angeles Angels (8-11)

MLB Betting Lines: Texas -125 / LAA +100 (Total 8.5)
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are a stiff 5-1 in their last 6 home games, but can’t be considered a strong MLB betting pick here. Their hitting has been good, but their pitching has been sketchy outside of Weaver. Even though they picked up a nice three game sweep of Detroit at home, you have to consider that the Tigers are pretty much playing as badly as they’re going to all season. I’m not saying the Angels are a terrible team, but they’re not a very good one either.
Jerome Williams won’t be a savior in the least. He’s been mostly used as a set-up man, totaling 11.1 innings in 5 games and allowing a confidence shattering 12 hits and 4 runs this season. The Angels are just 0-6 in Williams’ last five starts, and haven’t won the last five games when he’s on the stripe against winning teams. On top of that – if you’re strangely suspicious – the Angels are winless when playing on Wednesday as well.
Texas won’t keep up their hot streak all season, but there’s certainly reasons to be confident of them going in to this matchup. They play with an extremely high level of confidence any time Darvish is on the mound and the Angels won’t have any relief with Williams hurling the stitches on their behalf.
Bet the Texans on the run line, moneyline and the UNDER, which is usually held when Darvish starts a game.
