Some bettors know more than others. That should be obvious. In the sportsbook business these clients are known as 'sharps' and they can either be extremely useful to us or very expensive.
Every sportsbook has their own way of dealing with them but at gambling.net we're happy to see them win through the season as long as we can use the information about who they like in a game to help shape our lines.
We use the information about what the 'sharps' like most from the action on our overnight lines. Every day we post the lines for the following day's baseball action in the early evening. The limits are lower but the lines tend to be weaker because we may have missed some injury news or not taken into account a weather change enough.

We leave the lines up overnight and when we come in the next morning (we do leave a junior linesmaker in charge overnight, just in case there is a massive change in conditions) we get a pretty good idea where we have got things wrong.
When I switch on my computer in the morning and see 20 customers have all bet the same line and they are all 'sharps', I know we have made a mistake and the lines needs to be moved, sometime quite severely. If the sharp bettors are divided, we leave the line hung up until we get more information.
For those who don't have time to study the action or want to improve their betting, following the 'sharp' action can be very rewarding.
Gambling.net will be revealing the top five overnight 'sharp' plays on VegasInsider.com, so be sure to keep checking back to see where the shrewd action.
