NFL Week 1 odds released

The defending champion New York Giants kick off the 2008 season as they host their NFC rivals, the Washington Redskins. The Giants open as just a 4 point favorite which may seem a bit low to the casual observer considering they hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy just 2 ½ months ago. However, bettors should be reminded that the Redskins were the last team to defeat the Giants as they won quite easily 22-10 in Week 15.
The Patriots might have flopped on Super Bowl Sunday but Sportsbook.com odds-makers are obviously expecting more blowouts from the high-scoring Pats as they open as 15.5 point favorites against the Kansas City Chiefs. With Randy Moss returning in addition to the having the #7 pick in next weekend’s NFL Draft, the defending AFC Champs should be as hungry as ever. Don’t discount the “Super Bowl Hangover” theory though; of the last seven Super Bowl runner-ups, only one team was able to make the playoffs the following season. Of course, playing in the AFC East, it is hard to imagine the Patriots cleaning out their lockers before January.
