Cubs and D-Backs clash

Arizona Diamondbacks (23-12) at Chicago Cubs (19-15)
Friday, 2:20 pm Eastern – WGN

SBG Global Opening Line: Cubs - 115, Total 8 Over -115

The Chicago Cubs open up a 10-game homestand on Friday as they host the National League West leading Arizona Diamondbacks. It is a rematch of last year’s National League Division Series that the Diamondbacks swept. The Cubs will send their best three pitchers, Ted Lilly, Ryan Dempster and Carlos Zambrano against the D-backs' Dan Haren, Max Scherzer and Randy Johnson. The Cubs have been much better at home than on the road. They are hitting .315 as a team at home compared to only .246 on the road. Kosuke Fukudome has a .448 batting average at home but is hitting only .209 on the road. "There's no reason," Fukudome said through an interpreter, "I don't know why, and I feel comfortable on the road." SBG Global reports that early MLB betting has the public taking Diamondbacks on the Road.

Many of the Cubs players don’t understand why their numbers are better at home. "I like to play on the road, and I didn't even realize [the numbers]," Chicago’s Ryan Theriot said. The entire team seems to have trouble on the road. "I'm sure Fukudome will go on a road trip where he goes 15-for-20," Mark DeRosa said. "That's how the game works -- I like to believe that's how the game works. When the team's not winning, it becomes magnified.”

The Cubs will send left-hander Ted Lilly on Friday. Lilly is 2-4 on the season with an ERA of 5.97. He is coming off a 9-3 win over the Cardinals in which he went a season high 7 innings giving up three runs on six hits. The extra day off on Thursday will help Lilly since he threw a season-high 112 pitches against the Cardinals. The Cubs Alfonso Soriano has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.

SBG Global Current Line: Cubs - 114, Total 8 Over -120

Arizona goes with right-hander Dan Haren who is 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA. Haren did not get a decision in his last start against the Mets in which he gave up two runs.
