Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
Sunday, 8:05 pm Eastern – ESPN
The big series in New York between the Yankees and the Red Sox concludes on Sunday with Tim Wakefield opposing Joba Chamberlain. Both pitchers have good numbers but not much to show for them. Wakefield is 5-6 on the season but has a nice ERA of 3.72. Chamberlain is 2-2 and his ERA is a sparkling 2.22.

Wakefield has really been the hard luck pitcher for the Red Sox recently. He has a 1.98 ERA in his last seven starts but is only 2-3 in those games. He lost 3-1 to Tampa Bay in his last start, giving up only one earned run in seven innings. He is 9-16 with a 5.03 ERA in his career against New York. He is 5-7 with a 3.66 ERA at Yankee Stadium in his career.
Chamberlain allowed two runs to Texas in his last outing but because of his high pitch count only went four innings. He gave up five hits, four walks but he did have six strikeouts.
The Yankees are very concerned about their season and manager Joe Girardi met with his team on Thursday and was not pleased after their 7-0 loss to Boston. “You're not going to win 162, and I understand that," Girardi said, "But we are not where we should be, and I'm not happy. And our players aren't happy."

Derek Jeter has been the face of the Yankees for a long while and he is also very concerned about the inconsistency of the team. "If there were easy answers to things, you'd fix it right away," Jeter said, "It seems like we have days here and there and a couple of games where we swing the bats well, and then we go back and not do it. We just need to be a little bit more consistent."
Getting a win in the final game against Boston on Sunday would definitely help morale. The Yankees are off Monday before hosting first place Tampa Bay for a short two-game series beginning on Tuesday.
