Roger Federer (-350)
Andy Murray (+300)
Andy Roddick (+600)
Tommy Haas (+2500)
Murray advanced to his first ever Wimbledon semi-final with a straight set win over Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero. Tim Henman was the last Briton to even make the semifinals back in 2002 but he never made it any farther than that in four tries.
Murray is the more talented player than Henman and he’s trying to become the first Briton to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936. That’s a tremendous amount of pressure for the 22 year-old from Scotland but he has looked more and more comfortable as tennis fans hang on his every shot.
Murray is at 3:1 odds to win Wimbledon and that’s enticing given his tremendous home court advantage. He’s been installed as the solid -300 favorite over American Andy Roddick for Friday’s semi.
Roddick survived a marathon match over Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-7 (10), 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-4 to make it this far. He lost to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon finals in 2004 and 2005, but has failed to make the semifinals since.
Bettors going against Roddick cite Murray’s 6-2 record against him and that the crowd will be intense, but Roddick is confident of a good match despite facing some fatigue.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Roddick. “We might be able to count the people supporting me on one hand but I think it will certainly be something to remember.
Roger Federer (-1000) against Tommy Haas.
Federer has everything going for him as looks to break his tie with Pete Sampras with 14 major titles.
He did catch a huge break when defending champ Rafael Nadal wasn’t able to play due to his knee. Federer has now made 21 consecutive trips to major semifinals and he’s looking for his 6th Wimbledon title overall.
His opponent in Friday’s semi is 31-year-old German Tommy Haas. He shocked fourth seed Novak Djokovic 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3 to reach his first Wimbledon semifinal.
Duplicating that effort against Federer would be an upset for the ages.
