Wagering on Wieners
Baseball has the Red Sox and Yankees, while college hoops has Duke and UNC; in the world of competitive eating, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut and Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi is the rivalry that takes the cake, or in this case takes the hot dog.
This Saturday on the nation’s birthday, Chestnut will go for his third consecutive title and Mustard Belt in the world’s most prestigious eating event, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship and as usual, Broburysports.com has plenty of odds.
Ranked #1 and #3 respectively in the world by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, Chestnut and Kobayashi each devoured 59 frankfurters in just 10 minutes last year to force a five dog eat-off in which Chestnut prevailed.
The owner of six Mustard Belts himself, Kobayashi is considered the greatest eater of all time but some in the competitive eating world thought he was past his prime. On May 31st, Kobayashi silenced his critics by defeating Chestnut in the Pizza Hut P’Zone competition.
“This is gearing up to be the biggest square off in competitive eating history,” stated Broburysports.com Spokesman Brian Owen. “Between these two guys, they’ve won the last eight Mustard Belts and no one ever comes close.”
“Early bettors are on Chestnut” Owen went on to explain, “Our handicappers opened the line at Chestnut -130 and Kobayashi -110, but one sided wagering has moved the line to -150 and +120.”
With this event getting more and more attention every year, Broburysports.com has opened match-up odds on some of the other competitive eaters like the 105 pound Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas and Patrick “Deep Dish” Bertoletti.
