Jimmie Johnson is the huge favorite for the season title, but not for this Sunday’s race at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway. Here’s the update from BroburySports.com.

Johnson’s second-place finish last week at Martinsville has pushed his title odds to a ridiculous -1200. Denny Hamlin finished 1st last week, but it did little to boost his chances.

The good news is there’s a very competitive race this week that doesn’t have Johnson atop the odds-board. Kyle Busch is the +700 favorite and Dale Earnhardt Jr (+1000) is tied for second due to his amazing prior success.

Here are the favorites for Sunday’s AMP Energy 500. It will be broadcast on ABC at 1 pm EST.  

Kyle Busch (+700)

This will be Busch’ last go-around with crew chief Steve Addington. He won here in April of 2007 and another victory would be a great send-off.  

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (+1000)

Earnhardt Jr is struggling this season big-time, but he has five career victories at Talladega. He last won here in 2004, but had four straight wins from 2001-2003.

Jeff Gordon (+1000)

Gordon has six wins, 13 Top 5’s and 16 Top 10’s in 33 Talladega starts. He swept the two races here in 2007.

Tony Stewart (+1000)

Stewart has one win, nine Top 5’s and 12 Top 10’s in 21 Talladega starts. He won this race during last year’s Chase.

Denny Hamlin (+1200)

Hamlin has no wins, two Top 5’s and two Top 10’s in seven Talladega starts. Can he make it back-to-back Chase wins? The odds certainly give him a chance.
