The New Orleans Saints have made bettors ecstatic with a 6-0 straight-up and ATS start. They host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football at BroburySports.com.
New Orleans is a 10 ½-point favorite at BroburySports.com with a big Over/Under of 54.5. Note we also have a huge array of proposition bets for this game.
This NFC South rivalry has seen each team go 2-2 ATS the last four meetings. However, Atlanta is 1-4 ATS in the last five in the Bayou.
This is a bad time for Atlanta to look for a win in New Orleans. The Saints have the top-ranked offense in the NFL, and it’s balanced at 6th in passing and 3rd in rushing. Note that Atlanta’s run defense is very vulnerable and New Orleans has the ability to explode on any team.
The Saints’ vastly improved defense is ranked 11th, which has been the real key to their early success. Much of the credit has to go to new defensive coordinator Greg Williams, who really has the players buying into his system.
New Orleans is 3-0 ATS at home this season and 6-2 ATS there last season. Their most incredible victory was last week in Miami when they rallied from a 21-point deficit to win 46-34. The betting gods were even smiling on them when they returned an interception for a TD with under two minutes left to get the ‘cover’ as well.
Road woes for Atlanta
Atlanta is 4-2 SU and ATS. They have beaten all comers at home (3-0 SU, 3-0 ATS), but struggled on the road except for a 45-10 win at San Francisco. The two other road games were losses at New England (26-10) and Dallas last week (37-21).
The Falcons’ offense last year was led Michael Turner and the league’s 2nd-ranked rushing attack. This season, the team is just 19th in rushing and Turner’s numbers are way down. Atlanta must establish him early in this game to ground out yards and clock, keeping the Saints’ potent attack on the sidelines.
The Saints’ defense is blitzing much more this season and they have a whopping 13 picks in six games. Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan has four interceptions the last two weeks and he must play mistake-free to have a chance.
Note the Falcons are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 division games. They are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games coming off a SU loss.
