Gonzaga at Michigan State

Michigan State plays hosts Gonzaga on Tuesday night in a game that can be seen on ESPN.  Gonzaga head coach Mark Few knows that his team is in for a big challenge against the talented Spartans. "They're picked to probably make it to the championship game and battle for the national championship," Few said. "To play them on their home floor this early is quite a task."

Gonzaga and Michigan State have played three times in the past.  Michigan State beat the Zags at home back in 1997 and in a Sweet 16 game in 2001.  The Zags won in the Maui Classic back in 2005 in triple overtime.  Gonzaga will be a double digit underdog on Tuesday against the Spartans who return Kalin Lucas, Raymar Morgan and Delvon Roe from last year’s team. Matt Bouldin is the only starter back from Gonzaga's Sweet 16 team of last year. This year’s Gonzaga team is the least experienced of any Zags team in recent memory.  They won their opener against Mississippi Valley State 92-74 but really didn’t play that well. Freshman Elias Harris did have 18 points and 7 rebounds. "There was some good and there was some bad," Few said. The Zags are going to take their lumps early this season as they have non-conference matchups against Duke, Wake Forest, Illinois, Oklahoma, Memphis and Washington State.

Michigan State is coming off a 97-58 rout of Florida Gulf Coast in their opener. Kalin Lucas led the Spartans with 21 points.
