Improved Panthers host Phins
NFL Week 11 action kicks off Thursday night when the Carolina Panthers host the Miami Dolphins at BroburySports.com.
Carolina (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS) is a three-point favorite at BroburySports.com with an Over/Under of 42.5 points. Miami has gone ‘over’ the total in five of the last six games.
This contest will be broadcast on the NFL Network at 8:20 pm ET.
Carolina has been playing much better since its 0-3 start. The last three games have been very good with a 34-21 road win at Arizona and a 28-19 home win over Atlanta. Those games were sandwiched between a 30-20 loss at New Orleans, a game that Carolina could have easily won.
Carolina also ‘covered’ the N.O. game as 12 ½-point dogs. That means they’re 3-0 ATS in their last three games.
The big difference for Carolina is playing smart football. Quarterback Jake Delhomme has no picks the last three weeks, compared to 13 in the first six games. That poor start almost cost him his job.
The running game has also ratcheted it up a few notches, rushing for 270, 182 and 185 yards the last three weeks. DeAngelo Williams (knee) is questionable but should play, the same for Jonathan Stewart (heel).
Miami’s defense is ranked seventh in the league against the run (97.6 YPG). They will stack the line of scrimmage and try to force the ball into Delhomme’s hands.
Ronnie Brown’s injury is key
Miami (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS) is an up-and-down team. They were fortunate to beat Tampa Bay last week, 25-23 as 10-point chalk.
The Dolphins are 1-3 SU on the road this year, with a 30-25 win over the Jets. Miami was dominated in that game 378-104 in total yardage, but they got two kickoff returns for touchdowns from Ted Ginn. The Phins can’t count on that again.
To make matters worse, running back Ronnie Brown is out for the year. Ricky Williams may be the best complimentary back in the league, but losing Brown is a huge blow. He’s the one who mostly runs the ‘Wildcat’ offense.
That means more pressure on quarterback Chad Henne, who is more of a game manager with his 6.16 yards per attempt average (24th in the NFL).
