Washington (-1 ½) vs. New Mexico
Washington (25-9 SU, 15-18 ATS) is an 11th seed that is coming off an 80-78 win over Marquette. They roared back from a 15-point second half deficit to stun their Big East foe.
The Huskies are known as a two-man team with forward Quincy Pondexter (19.7 PPG) and guard Isaiah Thomas (17.1 PPG). However, they’re getting better production now from the supporting cast.
Washington is on an eight-game winning streak (7-1 ATS) with seven of those wins coming in road and neutral site games. That’s a big reason they’re favored on Saturday.
New Mexico (30-4 SU, 18-13-2 ATS) is a three-seed out of the MWC. That conference had four representatives along with BYU, UNLV and San Diego State. BYU advanced, but the other two teams didn’t.
The Lobos had trouble in their first round, beating No. 14 Montana 62-57 as 8 ½-point favorites. That was a one-point game with just over a minute remaining and could have gone either way.
Leading scorer Darington Hobson had just 11 points and he’ll have to play much better if they hope to beat Pac-10 Washington. Knowing that they’re getting points from a much lower seed should provide motivation.
