This was simply too good to pass up.
This week a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times did a little investigative work and dug up some pretty interesting...or comical...or just disgusting facts about Bears DL Terry "Tank" Johnson's recent stay in the Cook County Jail.
As you probably remember, Tank was sentenced to 60 days in the cooler after pleading guilty to misdemeanor weapons charges stemming from a December 2006 arrest when police found six unregistered firearms in his house during a raid.
So what exactly does a highly paid athlete, one just coming off a trip to the Super Bowl do during a two month stay in the big house? Digest Coach Lovie Smith's latest defensive playbook? Adhere to a strict workout regimen in hopes of getting a head start on his conditioning for training camp? Not exactly.
While its hard to say with certainty the exact details of Tank's activities while behind bars, there is evidence that shows he probably didn't have much time to do anything but eat.
Through the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, Sun-Times reporter Steve Patterson discovered that Tank spent $665 in the jail commissary, ordering a bunch of really unhealthy foods. Keep in mind, this is in addition to the three meals a day that Johnson was served.
Tank spent $665 on this...
162 Beef sticks 40 Honey bun sweet rolls 35 Summer sausage blocks 35 Bags of barbecue chips 22 Cups of coffee 10 Jugs of fruit punch 10 Cans of Tuna fish 9 Cans of jalapeno cheese spread 9 Packages of tortillas 6 Cans of refried beans 6 Bags of cookies 6 Packages of reese's cups 5 Jugs of lemonade 4 Packages of swiss rolls 3 Dill pickles 3 Cartons of sugar 3 Cartons of cream 3 Packages of oatmeal sandwiches 2 Bag of Jolly Ranchers 2 Packages of butterfingers 2 Boxes of peanut butter bars 1 Cupcake
Two things are quite obvious. Tank is a fat pig and the cupcakes at the Cook County Correctional Facility must not be very tasty.
