Like everyone, I hope to have a good start to the season. Going 0-2 is certainly not what I had in mind.
The LSU/Mississippi State game started off about how I had expected so I felt pretty good - at least through one quarter. However, once MSU QB Michael Henig started throwing picks, that gave LSU all the field position and momentum they needed to get rolling. And boy did Henig ever throw some picks - six of them. Trust me, the LSU defense is nasty, but at least four of those interceptions would have been had by most 1-A teams in the land. Henig was that awful.
Once the writing was on the wall for my Miss. St. +18.5 play, I started gearing up for Utah (+7)/Oregon State which kicked off at 10 PM ET. Again, things looked promising at the start as Utah went up 7-0 and I was feeling pretty good as the Beavers new QB Sean Canfield looked shaky. But how things can change in one quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Utes lost running back Matt Asiata to a broken leg and then a couple series later QB Brian Johnson - the heart and soul of the team - left the game with a right shoulder separation and was done for the night. The Beavers pulled away in the 2nd half and Utah had no offense without Johnson and Asiata, losing 24-7.
Lets hope my luck turns around this weekend.
