Recap: Arizona , Brigham Young
Date: December 11, 2010 6:00 PM EDT

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Arizona will be relieved next year when it doesn't see Brigham Young or Jimmer Fredette on it's schedule.

Fredette had 33 points and a career-high nine rebounds to lead No. 18 BYU to an 87-65 win over Arizona on Saturday.

Those 33 points came one year after Fredette scored a career-high 49 points in a 30-point win against the Wildcats in Arizona.

``I was able to have another good game tonight,' said Fredette. ``I was able to shoot the ball well and got started off quick. I don't know if it is anything against Arizona, but I was able to have another good game.'

``He (Fredette) is a terrific guard,' said Arizona coach Sean Miller. ``Today was just another example of how well he can play offensively. He makes everything easier for his team and we just had no answer for him today. We tried to guard him as a team but he is clever with the ball in his hands and has a good supporting cast.'

BYU (10-0) jumped out to a 12-4 lead, with Fredette scoring seven points during the run. The Cougars added a 14-0 spurt for a 28-10 cushion with 8:30 remaining in the first half.

Fredette scored the last four points of the half from the free throw line to give him 20 points as BYU went into the break up 44-25, its largest lead to that point.

``I thought the start was really important because I think it kind of deflated them,' said BYU coach Dave Rose. ``For Jimmer to come out and be as active as he was and make the shots like he did. He made some tough shots. They had him corralled pretty good.'

Noah Hartsock was accidentally hit in the mouth with 6:57 remaining in the first half. The blow resulted in a concussion and several stitches in his upper lip. He left the game after scoring three points.

``I thought that was as good of a team win as we've had this season,' said Rose. ``We got so many contributions from so many people. Noah (Hartsock), in a position where our depth is already limited with Chris (Collinsworth) going out, Stephen Rogers came in and stepped up and Logan Magnusson played really well.'

Arizona (8-2) outscored the Cougars 7-0 midway through the second to trim it to 59-46, but the Wildcats got no closer. BYU responded with a 9-3 run capped by Brandon Davies' jumper and dunk that pushed it back up to 68-49 with 10:19 remaining.

``Their ranking and record speaks for itself,' said Miller. ``BYU is one of the elite programs in the country and they showed it tonight. They are a good team and are well coached. They play great team defense and have a good crowd to support them.'

Lamont Jones led Arizona with 20 points. Derrick Williams was the only other Wildcats' player in double figures with 13. Arizona shot 35 percent from the field.

Collinsworth scored 12 points and Davies had 11 for BYU, which shot 52 percent from the field.
