LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) - Kashief Edwards made a layup as time expired to lift Niagara over Canisius 67-65 on Wednesday night.
Tied at 65 with 6 seconds left, Niagara's Marvin Jordan had his jump shot blocked by Tomas Simmons-Vazquez with 1 second to go. But possession remained with the Purple Eagles (7-21, 4-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), setting up Edwards for the win. Edwards finished with 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting.
Niagara took a 45-34 lead 34 seconds into the second half, and wouldn't trail the rest of the way.
Canisius (13-13, 7-9) later used an 8-3 run to pull within three, 61-58, on Julius Coles' 3-pointer with 8:19 left. The game remained tight from there until Elton Frazier's layup tied it for the Golden Griffins at 65-65.
Anthony Nelson had 10 points and nine assists for the Purple Eagles.
Julius Coles and Alshwan Hymes had 13 points each for Canisius.
