KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Tony Taylor scored 23 points to lead George Washington over Rhode Island 66-55 on Wednesday night.
The Colonials (16-13, 9-6 Atlantic 10 Conference) led 50-47 with 5:35 remaining before going on a 10-2 run. Taylor, who had six points during the spurt, capped it on a jump shot to put George Washington ahead 60-49 with 2:13 to play.
Taylor was 9 of 15 from the field as the Colonials won for the fifth time in their last seven games.
George Washington was 25 of 52 from the field, just slightly better than the Rams, who went 23 of 51, but committed nine fewer turnovers. The Rams (18-11, 9-6) had 19 turnovers, leading to 14 George Washington points.
Bryan Bynes added 12 points for the Colonials.
The Rams were led by Jamal Wilson and Delroy James, who each had a double-double. Wilson had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and James 12 points and 11 rebounds.
