GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Mathias Ward scored a season-high 27 points Thursday night, helping Montana break open a close game after halftime and rout North Dakota 77-62 to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Ward was 11 of 16 from the field, including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers. Will Cherry added 14 points and Kevin Henderson had 12 for the Grizzlies (9-4, 5-0 Big Sky), who took the lead for good on a 12-0 run early in the second half and were never threatened thereafter.
Troy Huff recorded his own season high with 24 points for North Dakota (4-10, 1-4), which knocked off Montana 88-81 in overtime in Grand Forks last season but couldn't repeat that feat against the defending Big Sky champs. Jamal Webb chipped in 11 points and seven assists.
North Dakota trailed just 38-36 at halftime after shooting 56 percent from the field, but made only seven field goals in the second half.
