WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Chad Tomko scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half as North Carolina-Wilmington edged William & Mary 61-59 on Monday night.
The Seahawks (7-6, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association) took a 40-26 lead with 16:12 left after Tomko sparked a 9-2 run with a steal and a layup.
But led by Quinn McDowell, who had 17 points, and Kyle Gaillard, who had 14, the Tribe rallied. McDowell made a 3-pointer from the top of the key to pull William & Mary within two at 54-52 with 3 minutes left.
The Tribe (4-9, 0-2) could not get over the hump, however, and lost their fourth in a row. Tomko made 5 of 8 from 3-point territory and the Seahawks were careful with the basketball, committing only four second-half turnovers. Keith Rendleman added 12 points and 10 rebounds for UNC Wilmington, his third career double-double.
