WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -John Fields tipped in a miss with 3.4 seconds left Monday night, giving North Carolina-Wilmington a 62-61 victory against William & Mary that ended the Tribe's school record-tying 10-game winning streak.
The Seahawks (5-8, 1-2 Colonial Athletic Association), coming off a 34-point loss to Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday, led only three times all game, but Fields made that last one count when he tipped the ball in after Chad Tomko's drive banked off the glass.
William & Mary (10-3, 2-1), which had tied the school record first set in the 1929-30 season with its 10 straight wins, inbounded the ball immediately, but a heave from near halfcourt missed badly, giving the Tribe it first loss since Nov. 15 at Harvard in overtime.
