INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Jake Nielson scored 15 points to lead five Southern Utah players in double figures and the Thunderbirds came back to beat IUPUI 80-68 on Thursday night.
IUPUI (16-12, 10-5 Summit) had won nine of the last 10 meetings between the schools, including an 87-61 rout at Southern Utah on Jan. 22. On Thursday, IUPUI opened up a 40-24 lead, but Southern Utah scored the last four points of the first half, beginning a 19-3 run that finally drew them even at 43.
Leroy Nobles' basket with 3:57 left got the Jaguars within 68-67, but that was their last field goal as Southern Utah closed it out, mostly from the free-throw line.
Southern Utah (9-17, 5-10) shot 62 percent from the field, 75 percent after halftime. Matt Hodgson and Jackson Stevenett scored 14 points apiece, Jordan Weireck had 12 and Taylor scored 10.
Nobles led IUPUI with 21 points.
