BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Keegan Bell scored 25 points, including six in overtime, as Chattanooga defeated Samford 77-72 Saturday in both teams' regular-season finale.
The Mocs (16-15, 12-6 Southern Conference) had hoped to earn the North Division's top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. That possibility vanished Saturday as Western Carolina beat College of Charleston 70-62.
Chattanooga still will get a first-round bye, though against a theoretically tougher opponent in the survivor of Friday's tournament game between Furman and Samford, rather than the winner of Davidson and UNC-Greensboro.
The Mocs rebounded from their second-worst defeat of the season, a 97-58 loss Wednesday to Wofford, as Ricky Taylor added 14 points. The Mocs outrebounded Samford 42-28.
Andy King and Josh Bedwell each had 14 points to lead Samford (12-18, 4-14), which lost its sixth in a row.
