NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Robert Covington had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Tennessee State rallied to defeat Tennessee-Martin 56-47 on Saturday night to end a three-game skid.
The Tigers (11-12, 8-5 Ohio Valley Conference) swept the season series against the Skyhawks (8-17, 3-10). Tennessee State won 67-64 on Jan. 8.
With the Tigers trailing 27-20 with 1:20 left in the first half, Covington scored the last three points of the first half and seven during a 13-0 run to open the second.
That spurt gave Tennessee State a 36-27 lead with 16:02 left.
Tennessee-Martin got within four points at 47-43 with 4:31 to go, but Patrick Miller hit a 3-pointer and Covington scored on a dunk to regain a comfortable margin.
The Tigers finished with a 42-31 rebounding edge.
Miller added 14 points for Tennessee State.
Mike Liabo scored 11 points to pace the Skyhawks, who have lost three straight.
