CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Mustapha Farrakhan scored 16 points and made key shots down the stretch to lead Virginia to a 61-54 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Joe Harris finished with 15 points for the Cavaliers (13-13, 4-8 Atlantic Coast Conference), who ended a three-game losing streak.

Malcolm Delaney scored 22 points for the Hokies (17-8, 7-5) with 22 points. Erick Green added 12.

Farrakhan's fastbreak layup following a Virginia Tech turnover gave Virginia an eight-point lead with 52 seconds to go and forced the visitors to play catch-up the rest of the way.

The win by Virginia gave it a season sweep over its in-state rival and evened the all-time ACC series at seven games apiece.

Virginia, which led by five at the half, came out on fire to start the second half.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Harris and Sammy Zeglinski, and then an Assane Sene dunk, were part of an 8-2 Cavaliers' run that led to a quick Virginia Tech timeout.

Later, another Zeglinski 3-pointer gave Virginia its largest lead of the game at 44-29.

But Tech, behind Delaney, stormed back. Delaney knocked down two straight 3-pointers as part of a 13-1 run that pulled the Hokies to 45-42.

However, Farrakhan added a 3-pointer from the wing to stop the bleeding. Later, he added a jumper to make it a 50-44 Cavaliers' advantage.

In the first half, neither team led by more than four points - until Virginia went on a 7-1 run in the final 90 seconds. The Cavaliers' spurt was highlighted by the outside shooting of Jontel Evans. The sophomore guard, not known for his shot, answered an Erick Green 3-pointer with a triple of his own to give Virginia a 24-22 lead.

After an Akil Mitchell bucket in the lane, which came off a pass from Zeglinski, Evans hit a long off-balance jumper with 2.8 seconds on the clock to give Virginia a 28-23 lead at the break.

Virginia Tech plays at Wake Forest Tuesday night, while Virginia plays at Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
