Wednesday’s Tip Sheet

This Wednesday night’s college basketball betting action is highlighted by a trio of nationally ranked teams facing an early conference test on the road.

In the Big 12, the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks are on the road against the Iowa State Cyclones. Moving to the ACC, the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils take their show on the road against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The final matchup pits the No. 7 San Diego State Aztecs against the Wyoming Cowboys in a Mountain West clash in Laramie.

No. 3 Kansas at Iowa State (ESPN+, 8:00 p.m. ET)

Betting Matchup

Kansas opened up Big 12 play with Saturday’s 60-53 home victory against West Virginia but it could not cover the closing 10-point spread. Prior to that win, the Jayhawks lost to Villanova 56-55 as two-point favorites to snap a straight-up nine-game winning streak. They are 11-2 SU overall and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight outings. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games. As one of the top teams in the nation, Kansas is averaging 79.5 points per game while allowing an average of 61.6 points on defense.

The Cyclones have dropped three of their last four games SU, including a 81-79 loss to TCU in their conference opener on Saturday as four-point road underdogs. They are 7-6 both SU and ATS after failing to cover in four of their last seven games. Iowa State is 1-3 ATS as an underdog this season and the total has gone OVER in eight of its first 13 games.

Sophomore guard Tyrese Haliburton has been a force with 17.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game. He has scored 22 points in each of his last three games.

-- The Jayhawks are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and the total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last 10 games overall.

-- The Cyclones have won six of their last eight home games SU with the total going OVER in four of their last five games played on a Wednesday.

-- This series is actually tied 5-5 SU over the last 10 meetings and Iowa State has been able to cover ATS in nine of those 10 games. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in five of the last six matchups.

No. 2 Duke at Georgia Tech (ACC Network, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Betting Matchup

Duke continues to demonstrate why it is one of the best teams in the country with seven-game SU winning streak. It knocked off Miami 95-62 on Saturday after beating Boston College by 39 points at home in its last two ACC games. The Blue Devils are 13-1 SU and 9-5 ATS after covering in five of their last six games. The total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 contests.

Center Vernon Carey Jr. scored 24 points in Saturday’s win and he leads the team in scoring with 18.4 points per game. Duke is averaging 84.1 PPG which is the fifth-highest total in the nation.

The Yellow Jackets moved to 2-2 SU in ACC play with Saturday’s 96-83 upset on the road against North Carolina as seven-point underdogs. They failed to cover with 11 ½ points on the road against Florida State in a 70-58 loss on Dec. 31. Georgia Tech has followed an ATS win with an ATS loss over its last 11 games. It is 7-7 SU overall and 9-5 ATS. Jose Alvarado scored 25 points in the win against North Carolina.

Sophomore guard Michael Devoe is the leading scorer this season (16.9 points) while shooting 45.9 percent from the field.

-- The Blue Devils are 10-2 SU in their last 12 road games and they have covered ATS in four of their last five ACC games.

-- The Yellow Jackets have a SU record of 5-12 over their last 17 conference games. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six home games.

-- Duke is a perfect 10-0 SU in its last 10 games against Georgia Tech with a 7-3 record ATS. The Blue Devils won last season’s road game 80-69 closing as nine-point favorites. The total stayed UNDER 143 ½ points.

No. 7 San Diego State at Wyoming (ESPN+, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: San Diego State -17.5, Total 119.5

Betting Matchup

The Aztecs have gained national attention with their perfect 15-0 SU start. They opened play in the Mountain West with SU victories against Fresno State at home and Utah State on the road. Splitting those games ATS, they are 9-5 ATS in 14 games with a closing line. The total has gone OVER in four of their last seven games. Fueling this perfect start is an offense scoring 75.7 PPG complementing a defense that is ranked fifth in the nation in points allowed (56.8).

San Diego State forward Nathan Mensah is listed as questionable for Wednesday (illness).

At the opposite end of the MWC standings is a Wyoming team with two SU wins in its last 10 games. The Cowboys have managed to cover the spread in their last four games with a closing line. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six contests.

Sophomore guard Hunter Maldonado has been one bright spot in an otherwise dismal effort with 18.1 points and 5.6 rebounds. He had 25 points in Saturday’s 72-61 loss to Colorado State to exceed his scoring average in four of his last five games.
