Line Movements

  • Spread: Texas Tech -8

Odds Subject to Change

Texas Tech opens as an -8-point home favorite in this conference game. Neither club is particularly good at covering the spread, each under the .500 ATS mark this season.

The point total is a low 133.5, something Texas Tech typically goes UNDER on. Texas Tech has gone UNDER the point total in seven of its last 10 games this season, as Chris Beard usually has himself a great defense in Lubbock.

Betting Analysis – Oklahoma State Cowboys

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-2
  • ATS: 3-4-1
  • SU - Home: 3-1
  • SU - Away: 3-1
  • O/U: 4-3-1

There is one name to watch for Oklahoma State, and that's Cade Cunningham. Cunningham is an easy lottery pick for the NBA Draft, and with Oklahoma State (probably) losing an appeals battle to see March Madness, he will not be part of the big dance.

That doesn't mean Oklahoma State isn't good however, as the Cowboys are as dangerous as any Big 12 club. Yes, they're on a two-game losing streak. The Cowboys only lost both games by a combined four points, almost knocking off Texas in Austin. The offense is also high-powered, only failing to touch 70 once this season.

This is mainly Cunningham's doing, but the Cowboys also have Isaac Likekele who averages 10 points per game. If Cunningham isn't carrying this team, they don't score points. Add that with one of the best defensive opponents they'll see all season, the Cowboys might not touch 70 for the second time all season.

Oklahoma State rebounds well, including 12.1 offensive rebounds per game which ranks 70th nationally. If the Cowboys can get offensive boards and win the rebounding battle (which they are good at), then they have a chance to cover against the Red Raiders. Winning straight up would be much more difficult, and require more scoring from players outside Cunningham and Likekele - don't count on that.

Betting Analysis – Texas Tech Red Raiders

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 8-2
  • ATS: 4-6
  • SU - Home: 7-1
  • SU - Away: 1-1
  • O/U: 3-7

Defense is the name of the game with Texas Tech, posting the third-fewest amount of points allowed per game and the eighth-most efficient defense in the country. This is typical with Chris Beard's team, as it was a successful formula to reach the National Championship game.

The offense is a struggle though, as Mac McClung is the leading scorer with 14.4 points per game. Terrence Shannon averages 13 too, but outside of those two the Red Raiders struggle to produce points. They more than make up for it on defense, as both McClung and Shannon average 1.1 steals per game.

Jamarius Burton and Nimari Burnett are also big contributors in steals, so even if McClung and Shannon struggle on offense there is efficient defense to lean on. Texas Tech also gets to the charity stripe, 19th nationally in free throws attempted per game (24.8).

Offensive struggles don't bother this team, as they rely on getting to the free throw line for buckets and lock down defense.

Oklahoma State-Texas Tech Predictions

Texas Tech usually doesn't see either team touch 70 points in a battle between good teams. If Texas Tech scores a lot it's against bad clubs, but Oklahoma State is a good team with a somewhat respectable defense. Feel free to go UNDER here, based on Texas Tech's O/U record and stellar defense.

Whether the Red Raiders can cover is another question, but neither team has proven they can constantly cover this season. That makes the spread market a bit tricky, whereas the point total seems a bit more clear cut.

  • Score Prediction: Texas Tech 69 Oklahoma State 57
  • Best Bets: UNDER
  • Best Bets: Texas Tech
