Recap: UC DAVIS , Hawaii
Line Movements
Date: September 24, 2011 11:59 PM EDT

HONOLULU (AP) - Bryant Moniz set a Hawaii record and tied an NCAA record by throwing seven touchdown passes in the first half as the Warriors routed UC Davis 56-14 on Saturday night.

Moniz led the Warriors to a 49-0 lead before sitting out the second half. He finished 30 of 40 for 424 yards, a school record for yards passing in a half, and added five carries for 50 yards.

He tossed four TDs in the first quarter for the Warriors (2-2), who snapped a two-game losing streak. The senior tied Florida's Terry Dean (1994), Florida's Doug Johnson (1997) and San Diego State's Dennis Shaw (1969) for the record.

The seventh TD was an 8-yarder to Royce Pollard with 3:57 left in the half. Pollard hauled in three of Moniz's scores and finished with nine receptions for 145 yards.

Hawaii was too athletic for UC Davis (1-3), which was playing its second FBS team this month.

The Warriors racked up 637 yards, including 486 in the first half, while holding UC Davis to 196.

Hawaii, which was outscored 31-3 in the first quarter of the past two weeks, built a 21-0 lead just 7 1/2 minutes into the game and had a 28-0 lead after the opening quarter. The Warriors scored a touchdown on all seven of their first-half possessions. UC Davis, meanwhile, managed just one first down in the half.

The defense helped set up Hawaii's first score. Corey Parades popped the ball loose from Tom Hemmingsen, and Tank Hopkins fell on it, giving Hawaii possession on UC Davis' 25.

On Hawaii's first offensive play, Moniz threw a short swing pass to the left, and Sterling Jackson easily found his way to the end zone. About two minutes later, Moniz tossed a perfectly-timed 34-yard rainbow to Pollard, who got one foot down in the back of the end zone.

Moniz completed his first eight passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He had 230 yards passing in the first quarter.

Last year, Moniz led the nation with 5,040 passing yards and 39 touchdowns but has struggled to find his rhythm this year with a new set of receivers.

Nick Aprile's 1-yard TD run got the Aggies on the scoreboard in the third quarter. The Aggies added another score early in the fourth to make it 49-14, but that's as close as they got.
