Cameron, McElwain to land at Michigan?

Two prominent college coaches are reportedly in the running to become the 10th member of Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan.

According to several reports, former LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and former Florida coach Jim McElwain are on Harbaugh's radar.

Harbaugh has an opening to fill after new wide receivers coach Dan Enos left in January for a position at Alabama.

But the opening apparently won't be filled by Toledo offensive coordinator Brian Wright. reported Saturday that Wright took his name out of consideration.

Cameron worked at LSU from 2013 to 2016 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Les Miles before Miles was fired during the 2016 season.

The 56-year-old Cameron also has 14 years of experience in the NFL. He was with the Baltimore Ravens for five seasons as offensive coordinator from 2008 to 2012 and before that held the same position with the San Diego Chargers from 2002 to 2006.

The former Indiana quarterback was hired for his first coaching job by Bo Schembechler at Michigan in 1984 as a graduate assistant. He stayed on to become the wide receivers and quarterbacks coach from 1986 to 1993 for Schembechler and former head coach Gary Moeller.

McElwain also has an offensive pedigree. He interviewed last week, the Michigan Insider reported.

The 55-year-old McElwain was the head coach at Florida for three seasons before he was ousted in October. He had left the head coaching job at Colorado State, where he turned around the program. His other experience on the offensive side of the ball was as coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama under Nick Saban, at Fresno State and in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders.

McElwain's other college coaching stops were Michigan State from 2003 to 2005 as assistant head coach and at Louisville, Montana State and Eastern Washington.

Harbaugh said last week that a decision on a staff addition is coming.

"It's going to happen soon," he said. "I spend a lot of time effort, as I do -- as we do -- for each and every person that you hire."

Harbaugh has not indicated the duties of the new assistant, but the Wolverines need a jump-start on offense after they tied for 91st nationally in scoring at 25.2 points per game.
