 VI Top 25 Ranking

2007-08 VegasInsider.com Top-25 Rankings
Rank Team 2007 SU* 2007 ATS** Skinny
1 LSU Tigers LSU 12-2 5-7-2 Maybe all that talk about the SEC being the best conference is right after all. Seeing a two-loss team win the national championship almost screams that we need a playoff system.
2 West Virginia Mountaineers West Virginia 11-2 8-5 The Mountaineers probably posted the most surprising BCS performance this season by completely dismantling Oklahoma. Makes you wonder if Bill Stewart will have a chance to make a title run with Pat White under center next year.
3 USC Trojans USC 11-2 7-6 If it wasn't for the loss to Stanford, the Trojans would have most likely won another national title this decade. And don't forget about Joe McKnight…he'll have a chance at the Heisman Trophy in 2008.
4 Georgia Bulldogs Georgia 11-2 8-4 The Hokies are playing some of the best football in the nation. However, Frank Beamer must be kicking himself for not holding tight in that loss to the Eagles back on Oct. 25 because they'd be going for a championship right now.
5 Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State 11-2 7-5 Sure the Buckeyes got dumped by LSU like everyone thought, but a second straight BCS title game appearance is pretty good for a rebuilding season.
6 Missouri Tigers Missouri 12-2 9-3-1 The Tigers eliminated any doubt as to which team was the best not to make a BCS game this year. It's going to be awful tough for Gary Pinkel to replace Tony Temple in the backfield.
7 Kansas Jayhawks Kansas 12-1 11-1 You can't say that the Jayhawks didn't beat anyone worth while this season now after winning the Orange Bowl. Kansas will have trouble replacing Aqib Talib in its secondary next year. I just hope they're as automatic against the spread as they were this year.
8 Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma 11-3 7-7 Someone explain why Bob Stoops gets a pass for having bad BCS loss after bad BCS loss, while Jim Tressel catches flack for a pair of bad showing. I just don't get it.
9 Virginia Tech Hokies Virginia Tech 11-3 7-6 Frank Beamer did about as much as you can do without having one decent quarterback to hitch his horse to in 2007. Major rebuild will be in progress next season on defense.
10 Boston College Eagles Boston College 11-3 6-7 The Matt Ryan era ended with a bang in Champs Sports Bowl win over Michigan State. Sadly, the hangover will be bad in Chestnut Hill next year.
11 Texas Longhorns Texas 10-3 7-6 The Longhorns finished off a season that started with promise, but was filled with underachievement on a high note. Next year will be tough with a few skill spots being open from early departures.
12 Florida Gators Florida 9-4 8-4 Tim Tebow is the latest in the line of Heisman Trophy winners to lose their bowl game. The streak now stands at three. The experience the Gators got this year will put them back on the title map next year.
13 Tennessee Volunteers Tennessee 10-4 9-4-1 The Vols finished the year strong with Erik Ainge under center…What will they do without him though?
14 BYU Cougars BYU 11-2 6-6 Hawaii may have received the BCS love this year, but the Cougars were the best mid-major (if you can call it that) in the nation. If Brigham Young can put together a solid campaign in 2008, then maybe they'll get a shot at a big time game.
15 Auburn Tigers Auburn 9-4 7-5 The Tigers' overtime win over Clemson in the Chik-fil-A Bowl gave the Auburn faithful a lot to look forward to…especially the newly minted spread attack with Kodi Burns under center.
16 Arizona State Sun Devils Arizona State 10-3 6-7 Two things on Dennis Erickson's "To Do" list during the off-season: figure out how to keep your quarterback off his back and how to put together a full 60-minutes for each game.
17 Wisconsin Badgers Cincinnati 10-3 7-4-1 I'm going to throw this out there, but the Bearcats will be the next team to win the Big East championship in 2008.
18 Michigan Wolverines Michigan 9-4 6-5-1 The Wolverines sent Lloyd Carr off into the sunset with a win over Florida. Now we get to see how long Michigan will take to get up to speed with Rich Rodriguez's new system.
19 Clemson Tigers Clemson 9-4 6-6 You get the feeling that maybe Clemson is set for something big in the ACC next year?
20 Texas Tech Red Raiders Texas Tech 9-4 5-6-1 I'm just throwing it out there, but did we actually see Texas Tech show up with a makings of an opportunistic defense this year? Picturing Mike Leach's offense with a solid defense is just frightening.
21 Hawaii Warriors Hawaii 12-1 3-6 We might be witnessing the biggest slide of a BCS bowl team next year. The Warriors are losing their top offensive weapons, including June Jones. This might be a good time to back Boise State to win the WAC in 2008.
22 Illinois Fighting Illini Illinois 9-4 7-4-1 The Illini may have gotten blown out of the water in the Rose Bowl, but you have to like where Ron Zook has this program is heading.
23 Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin 9-4 4-8 If the Badgers learned anything this season, it is that you can't win any games without playing some form of defense.
24 Oregon State Beavers Oregon State 9-4 8-4 Mike Riley has built on the legacy that he helped build along with Dennis Erickson over the past few years. The Beavers have a chance at being a dark horse in the Pac 10 next year. That may sound like some crazy talk, but it could happen.
25 Oregon Ducks Oregon 9-4 9-4 It took almost two months to figure it out, but the Ducks found a way to play without Dennis Dixon. Pretty good news considering Dixon's gone.
