Betting on the Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State is looking to build off of a strong start to the 2020’s after going 10-3 in 2021 and ranking as high as 18th in the AP Poll.
Fresno State Bulldogs Overview
The Bulldogs have competed in Division 1 college football since 1969, and despite being less popular and less recognizable than other California schools, it has fared well for itself.
From 1989-1993, Fresno State cracked the top-25 each season under the leadership of Coach Jim Sweeney. The team’s success included a handful of bowl game appearances and two undefeated seasons in-conference.
While the late ‘80s to early ‘90s may be the Bulldogs’ most consistent run of success, its most notable season may be 2013, at least in hindsight. In 2013, Fresno State racked up 11 wins, including a 7-1 Mountain West record, and ranked as high as 15th.
Quarterback Derek Carr and superstar wide receiver Davante Adams’ connection was electric at Fresno State. In 2013, Carr-to-Adams resulted in 131 receptions, 1,718 yards, and 24 touchdowns.
Now, the old college teammates will renew their connection in Las Vegas, for the Raiders.
Since the departure of the school’s most recognizable stars, it has gotten back to its winning ways and will look to build on its momentum in the coming years.
Betting on Fresno State in California
Sports betting is currently illegal in the Golden State. Despite that, proponents of legalization are working overtime to bring the popularized practice to California.
The state has tens of millions of annual tourists to go along with the most professional sports teams of any state in the country. It’s a safe assumption that California would immediately become a national leader in sports betting handle and revenue.
At this point, there is an ongoing battle between California tribal operators and their opponents, which include cardrooms and potential commercial sportsbook operators.
A proposal backed from the state’s tribes focuses on retail sports betting and is approved to be on the 2022 November ballot. Opponents prefer a more widespread mobile operation and the ability to offer legal, all-encompassing sports betting outside of tribal casinos.
Mobile betting will not launch in California in 2022 and it’s unlikely in 2023, too. Retail betting could make its way into the state in 2023.
When sports betting does arrive in California in some form, here’s what bettors can expect:
