Betting on the Michigan State Spartans

When you think of Big Ten college football, the Michigan State Spartans would be on the short list of teams that come to mind. Legally betting on the Spartans in the state of Michigan only elevates its place on the list.

Michigan State Spartans Team Overview

Going back to the program’s first college football season in 1918, Michigan State played as an Independent until 1952. The highlight of that extended timeframe was the team’s first national title run in that final season.

As a charter member of the newly formed Big Ten in 1953, the Spartans won the conference title that first season and went on to win the annual Rose Bowl. Duffy Daugherty was named the team’s head coach in 1954 and he held that position through the 1972 season.

The Spartans won back-to-back college football national titles in 1965 and 1966 with Daugherty coaching the team. Michigan State went 19-1-1 during those two championship campaigns.

As a perennial postseason bowl team out of the Big Ten, other famous Michigan State head coaches included George Perles, Nick Saban and Mark Dantonio. The best effort in recent years was a ranking of No. 3 in the nation in the final Associated Press Top 25 in 2013. Michigan State won the Rose Bowl that season.

In 2021, the Spartans were ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation. With a record of 11-2, they ended up ranked No. 9 in the final AP poll.

The Spartans have won the Big Ten Championship nine times during their tenure in the conference. They have appeared in 30 major bowl games over the years.

Michigan State has created some great rivalries in the Big Ten. The annual game against the Ohio State Buckeyes has grown to become a major draw for fans and legal bettors. However, Michigan State’s biggest rivalry has always been against the Michigan Wolverines.

In-state bragging rights are always on the line when those two teams face off against one another each season. A popular way to bet on the Michigan State vs. Michigan game is using the college football total line for combined points scored.

If the betting line is set at 45 points, these two teams would have to score a combined 46 points or more to produce a winning bet on the OVER.

While this partnership is inclusive with all Michigan State athletic teams, the highlight for Caesars is the association with Spartans football. This includes outdoor tailgating areas for all football home games.
