WACO, Texas (AP) _ Baylor forward Harvey Thomas has decided to forgo his
senior season and declare for the NBA draft.
Thomas, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, averaged 15.6
points and 5.5 rebounds last season. He was named to the All-Big 12 third team
and the conferences All-Newcomer squad by The Associated Press. ``I enjoyed the opportunity to play at Baylor University and I want to thank
everyone involved in my growth as a player and as a person,'' Thomas said in a
statement released by the school.
Baylor endured a painful season that included self-imposed penalties
stemming from major NCAA violations under former coach Dave Bliss. Thomas
missed Baylor's first eight games while a university compliance committee
investigated whether he had received an extra benefit in violation of NCAA
regulations. The NCAA cleared him to play.
``We want to thank Harvey for helping make our team competitive this past
season and helping us surpass expectations,'' coach Scott Drew said.
