Rumsfeld, Cheney next to Walk?

Rumsfeld, Cheney Next to Walk the White House Plank?

Sportsbook.com offers odds on Administration departures

Washington, D.C.  (April 27, 2006)George W. Bush may be the worst president in American history. At least that’s what some Washington talking heads are now saying. Bush has accepted resignations from two senior Administration officials in the past few weeks but many Republicans and Democrats believe that much more needs to be done in order to salvage his lame duck presidency. They have their sites set on Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, lightning rods for public criticism of the Bush White House and the War in Iraq. Odds on Cheney still being Vice President on  December 31, 2006 currently sit at YES +400, NO -600, while odds on Rumsfeld being Defense Secretary on December 31st  are YES +250,

NO -400.

“Bush is gambling that by replacing two White House staffers he will be able to kick start what many view as the worst presidency and most incompetent White House in the nation’s history,” said Alex Czajkowski, Sportsbook.com.  “There is no evidence yet that his gamble is paying off, no reported improvement to his approval rating. So what Bush will do next is what makes betting on this prop very interesting!”

Chief of Staff Andy Card resigned on March 28, and Press Secretary Scott McClellan announced his departure on April 19. David Gergen, a White House advisor to four presidents wrote in the New York Times on the weekend that to rescue his presidency, Bush “has to want to change policies like those in Iraq, energy and taxes”.

That kind of radical change would suggest that Bush has to consider the resignations of his very close confidants Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney if he is to have a chance at restoring some lustre to his presidency.

“Everyone loves to bet and wagering on whether Cheney and Rumsfeld will go for the good of their President is one way for Americans to let pundits know just how seriously they hold their views,” added Czajkowski
