EVENING WEATHER REPORT
-- Each day we'll provide a look at MLB cities with outdoor venues which have a 30 percent or more chance of precipitation. It's rather risky to insert guys into your Daily Fantasy lineup in games with a good chance of delay or postponement.
BIG-TICKET ITEM (Salaries $10,000 and Above)
Jeremy Guthrie, SP, Kansas City ($13200 vs MIN - LATE): Guthrie has been fabulous in the month of August, going 4-1 with a 2.86 ERA over five starts with 23 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings, and he also has his only complete game of the season in the month. The Royals are a big favorite to beat the Twins, which bodes well for DFS owners. The Royals are 5-1 in Guthrie's past six starts against the Twins. In addition, Minnesota is 0-4 in their past four trips to Kansas City, and 8-20 in the past 28 meetings overall.
MID-LEVEL VALUES (Salaries between $7,500 and $9,999)
If you spend big up top, you’re going to need some fillers to bring down your average per player salary. Check out these steals from the bargain bin:
Chris Davis, 1B-3B, Baltimore ($8800 vs TB - LATE): It's been an all-or-nothing month for Davis, who has five homers and 10 RBI in the month of August, but also a poor .150 (12-for-80) average. He could power up against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson Thursday, however. Davis is a career .407 (11-for-27) hitter with three doubles, two homers, nine RBI and a 1.169 OPS against Hell Boy.
Jason Heyward, OF, Atlanta ($9250 at NYM - LATE): While Heyward has struggled against left-handed pitching, hitting just .164 this season, he has rolled up a .375 average (9-for-24) with two doubles, two homers, eight RBI and a 1.153 OPS in his career against New York Mets SP Jon Niese. If he is in the lineup, Heyward is worth a roll of the dice based upon his history against Niese.
Jason Kipnis, 2B, Cleveland ($8550 at CHW - LATE): Kipnis has started to show some signs of life lately, posting two multi-hit games over his past three outings, and he has hit safely in 10 of the past 11. He should continue to hit against Chicago White Sox SP John Danks, as he is 6-for-19 (.316) with a double, triple, homer, six RBI and a .995 OPS against the lefty.
Yusmeiro Petit, SP, San Francisco ($9350 vs COL - EARLY): Petit takes over for the ineffective Tim Lincecum in the rotation for manager Bruce Bochy. Petit has retired 38 straight batters over his past seven appearances, six in relief. That streak is likely to come to an end Thursday, but he has still been very effective lately, and the Giants are the biggest favorites on the board Thursday. He has a great chance at a win, and he comes with an ultra-low Daily Fantasy salary for a pitcher.
Martin Prado, 2B-3B, N.Y. Yankees ($8650 at DET - EARLY): Prado will be facing a left-handed pitcher, and that's usually tremendous news. He is hitting .351 (33-for-94) with seven doubles, a triple, five homers, 17 RBI and a .991 OPS against left-handed pitching, while he has just a .633 OPS vs RHP.
THE BARGAIN BIN (Salaries less than $7,500)
Zelous Wheeler, 3B-OF, N.Y. Yankees ($5000 at DET - EARLY): If Wheeler is given the start Thursday, he could do very well. He is hitting .294 against left-handed pitching, as opposed to just .217 against righties. He is also attractive for DFS owners for his multi-positional eligibility.
