DFS Best Bets - Week 9
October 31, 2017
By Austin Chen
Who knew the best defense last week would be the East Coast storm as stacking the afternoon slate was the way to go. We are still in the middle of the bye week season this week so the salaries are tight again. The Dallas defense was one of the plays I added that I had sent out last Wednesday.
Before I break down the players to play in Week 9, everyone should go check out the RotoQL NFL Lineup Optimizer as it is a must when building your daily fantasy football teams.
Drew Brees (DK:$7,000, FD: $8,300)
Drew Brees has taken a backseat to the Saints rushing attack this season but I think this is a week where he will get a chance to showcase his talents. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense hardly creates any pressure which should let Brees slice and dice thru them. The Buccaneers have give up the 3rd most passing yards a game this season. The game has the highest over under at 50 this week so plenty of points are expected. I will be looking to stack Drew Brees with Alvin Kamara, Ted Ginn, or Michael Thomas.
Dak Prescott (Draftkings:$6,700, FanDuel: $8,200)
Dak Prescott is in a good spot to bounce back from a poor outing in Washington due to bad weather. I am expecting the Cowboys to lean more on Prescott now that Ezekiel Elliott is suspended. The Kansas City Chiefs give up the 5th most passing yards a game. Hopefully the clunker last week will drive down his ownership. If you are looking to stack Dak Prescott, Jason Witten or Dez Bryant are your best bets.
Other QBs To Consider: DeShaun Watson, Alex Smith, Trevor Siemian
Lamar Miller (DK:$6,200, FD: $7,500)
With the rise of the Houston Texans offense, Lamar Miller has become a thing. The Texans are expected to blow out the Colts which should lead to a bigger workload for Miller. His highest scoring weeks are the two games with the most carries. Another encouraging sign is D’Onta Foreman did not get a touch last week. For a while it looked like Foreman was going to eat into Miller’s workload but that is no longer the case.
Orleans Darkwa (DK:$3,800, FD: $5,400)
Orleans Darkwa is a DraftKings special. He is priced too cheap against the LA Rams run defense. The Rams funnel their defense to the run as they have given up the 2nd highest average fantasy points to running backs each week. Orleans Darkwa has scored over 14 DK points in 2 of his last 3 games.
Other RBs To Consider: Kareem Hunt, Chris Thompson
Will Fuller (DK:$7,000, FD: $7,800)
Will Fuller is my favorite GPP tournament play in week 9. Everyone is going to tell you how his touchdown rate is unsustainable or how overpriced he is. Both maybe true but in tournaments the number one thing I am always looking for is players with 2 touchdown upside. It is not like Fuller’s chances of hitting the big play will suddenly go away just because the DFS community and NFL are made aware of it. DeAndre Hopkins and DeShaun Watson are still on the team and require plenty of attention from defenses. The Colts defense are simply not talented enough this week to shut down the Texans.
Ted Ginn Jr. (DK:$5,000, FD: $5,700)
It is Ted Ginn Jr week everyone! Tampa Bay is giving up the most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. They give up over 275 passing yards a game and have been having a tough time generating pressure this season with only 7 sacks. This should give Ginn the opportunity to run down field to beat the Buccaneers deep. Ginn is one of the Saint’s primary passing options this season behind only Thomas and the two running backs. Ted Ginn will be facing a very beatable Ryan Smith who only has a 38.9 Pro Football Focus player grade this week.
Other WRs To Consider: Dez Bryant, Tyreek Hill, Tyler Lockett
Cameron Brate (DK:$4,500, FD: $6,100)
Cameron Brate will be facing Vonn Bell which is mis match we can exploit. Vonn Bell is giving 0.84 fantasy points per route which is 2nd most this season. Brate spends only 2% of snaps in to block which has led to 10 or more DraftKings fantasy points in every game but one. He is getting 0.77 fantasy points per route which is 3rd best among tight ends.
Jack Doyle (DK:$4,300, FD: $5,700)
Jack Doyle has become Jacoby Brissett and the Colts offensive line new best friend. Whenever there is any pressure, Doyle is reaping the rewards. He now has 32 targets in the last 3 weeks after seeing only 23 targets in the first 4 weeks. The reward has been an average of 20.17 DraftKings fantasy points versus 8.08 DK points in the first 4 weeks. This makes Jack Doyle price very cheap for his uptick in production. In a game where Indianapolis are 2 touchdown underdogs, I see no reason to not play Jack Doyle this week.
Other TEs To Consider: Zach Ertz, Vernon Davis (if Reed is out), Ben Watson
LA Rams (DK:$3,100, FD: $4,800)
The LA Rams get to take on Eli Manning who highest passing game in the last 2 weeks is 134 yards. The Giants are a offensive to target as long as they continue to struggle to manufacture points with a lack of playmakers. The Rams have only allowed 8 passing touchdowns this season which is 2 less than Eli Manning’s season total.
Baltimore Ravens (DK:$2,900, FD: $4,700)
The Baltimore Ravens face a Tennessee Titans offense that was sputtering into their bye week. The Ravens defense dominated the Dolphins to post their 2nd shutout of the season. Until I see a healthy Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray, the Titans are a team we can attack on defense. The Ravens have give up the 5th fewest passing yards per game and the return of Brandon Williams have given a boost to their run defense. I think the Ravens defense will score double digit fantasy points for the 5th time this season in week 9.
Other Defenses To Consider: Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars
